Jegar Erickson was born on December 6, 1976 in Austin, Texas—the son of Roky Erickson, it was inevitable that from the moment of his birth his life would be filled with art, writing, movies, theater and music. Jegar's early years were spent largely away from the spotlight— not knowing his father for some time when he was diagnosed with mental illness. Never having the opportunity to watch his father perform concerts from the side of the stage.
Having primarily hearing and admiring his fathers music from a distance, Jegar began listening to Bob Dylan, The Rolling Stones, Cat Stevens, Cream and Jimi Hendrix. Like many aspiring musicians of his generation, Jegar ‘s ear was caught in a stranglehold by trailblazing a eclectic sound of his own. He also enjoys listening to more recent artists like Deadweather, Jack White, Allison Mossheart, The Kills, Queens of the Stoneage and Joseph Arthur for hours on end trying to figure out a way to translate what he was hearing in his head to inspire his writing and vocal abilities.
Ultimately, Jegar and his band auditioned for Roky's new solo band project. "I remember asking Roky and his manager if we could audition for the band. I really didn't know if we could cut it, but with our new sounds and strong arrangements felt we could offer something fresh to Roky's music." says Jegar. Jegar's band audition was successful. After working with Roky for a few years, Jegar gained more fundamental knowledge of Roky's technique and scales. Jegar was fortunate to have talented musicians in The Hounds of Baskerville as support. Jegar became remarkably proficient in a very short amount of time due to his intense practicing sessions with the band. The Hounds of Baskerville currently work with Roky Erickson as his official band and also tour as a separate project The Hounds of Baskerville.
